Barb Mizik
I’m an artist living and working in Lenexa, Kansas - a suburb of Kansas City. Not too long ago, I retired from a long, happy career as a hand lettering and illustration artist for Hallmark Cards so I could focus on my personal art.
My primary painting medium is encaustic. This is an ancient art form made from melted beeswax, damar resin and carnauba wax. Oil pigments are added for color. I like to incorporate other materials such as glass, paper and wire into my work. The possibilities are endless as encaustic is so versatile and can be carved into, left with lots of texture or smoothed to a soft luster. I also work in a variety of other mediums such as acrylic, alcohol ink, watercolor and resin, creating surface patterns on paper and canvas then cutting them into shapes to create a collage.
The fun part of making art is the process. I experiment with different materials and techniques to see what will happen. My desire is to make artwork that will bring joy to others.
I’m constantly learning and want to share my love for making art. I teach encaustic workshops and more. To find out what’s coming up, please subscribe to my email newsletter.
When I’m not making art, I enjoy spending time with my husband and family—especially my fun granddaughters. They all Inspire me to keep going!
