ARTIST STATEMENT
As an artist, I embark on a creative journey blending diverse media and techniques to cultivate a playful and whimsical art form.
My work spans from abstract expressionism to semi-representational paintings, utilizing encaustic wax, acrylics, alcohol inks, watercolors, and collage. My creative process is a dance between intention and spontaneity. I start by painting backgrounds on wood panels, using media like encaustic or acrylic paint. Sometimes, my compositions are pre-sketched, while other times, they emerge organically. I use stencils to shape my compositions by revealing or concealing sections of the background.
Patterns and colors fascinate me, informed by my design background that encourages breaking visuals into simple shapes and layouts. I enjoy exploring how colors and shapes create intricate patterns.
I also paint abstract textures on canvas and other papers, cutting them into various shapes to define the layout or objects. The luminous quality of encaustic paint adds depth to my work, while the collage process lends a whimsical, less refined touch. Metallic colors and clear resin applied over my acrylic work create fascinating light reflections.
My current body of work weaves these multiple techniques together, resulting in uniquely layered visual experiences that reflects my passion for diverse art processes.
